We are committed to ensuring our website, interactive walkability tools, and municipal portals (accessible via urbanscore.eu and related domains) comply with web accessibility standards and European digital inclusion directives.

  • Color Contrast & Visual Clarity: Text elements, icons, and walkability score badges maintain high contrast ratios against background colors to ensure readability for users with low vision or color vision deficiencies.
  • Resizable Text & Zoom Support: The interface adapts fluidly without loss of content or function when zoomed up to 200% using standard browser controls.
  • Non-Textual Alternatives: Map-based scores and amenity lists are paired with text summaries so that spatial information is conveyed through multiple visual and textual cues, not color alone.
  • Responsive Layouts: The site adapts gracefully across desktop monitors, tablets, and mobile devices to accommodate screen magnifiers and alternative input systems.

3. Known Limitations & Ongoing Improvements

While we continuously strive for complete accessibility, some complex interactive geospatial elements present technical challenges. We are actively working to improve the following areas:

  • Interactive Map Canvases: Dragging or panning real-time vector maps can be challenging with screen readers or keyboard-only navigation. To mitigate this, we provide text search inputs and structured address/district lists as an alternative way to select locations.
  • Third-Party Open Datasets: Some municipal datasets provided by external city portals may contain raw files or legacy geospatial layers that do not fully conform to modern WCAG standards.

We monitor our application through both automated auditing tools and manual usability testing to identify and remediate accessibility barriers as we update the platform.
